Introduction to TOVENVOR
The project introduces a novel refrigeration and energy recovery system called TOVENVOR, which combines TOroidal VENturi System (TOVENS) and a Vortex tube system. TOVENS is designed to create a venturi vacuum with increased efficiency and a focus on converting more energy to work. The project’s methodology builds on the principles of Bernoulli’s equations and focuses on extracting more enthalpy from compressed gas.
The TOVENS as shown below utilises an asymmetrical biconical design, incorporating diverging and converging sections to optimise pressure differentials and velocity, resulting in enhanced venturi vacuum suction. The power for TOVENS is provided by co-axial BLDC fans with adjustable speeds, offering control over the flow rate and internal pressure. The project also introduces a reverse system called TABERS to recover rejected heat and convert it into electricity.
Increased
Efficiency
TOVENVOR prioritises the development of highly efficient refrigeration systems. Recognising that cooling accounts for a substantial share of global electricity demand, particularly in hot regions during summer, the project aims to reduce energy consumption significantly. This emphasis on efficiency aligns with global efforts to mitigate the environmental impact of cooling processes and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Achieving a high Coefficient of Performance (COP) demonstrates the competitiveness of the developed solution, making cooling processes more environmentally friendly and economically attractive.
Lower Total Cost of Ownership
The economic burden associated with cooling technologies, especially in high-demand regions, necessitates a reduction in the total cost of ownership (TCO). TOVENVOR's objective is to lower both initial investments and operational costs related to cooling technologies. By doing so, it ensures that cooling remains accessible and affordable for consumers and businesses, particularly in regions with substantial cooling demand. This approach not only benefits end-users but also supports broader policy objectives aimed at reducing the economic impact of cooling on households and industries.
System Replicability and Market Potential
TOVENVOR's approach to developing sustainable and environmentally friendly cooling technologies positions it well for market expansion and replicability. By avoiding harmful refrigerants and critical raw materials, the project aligns with sustainability goals, reducing the environmental impact of cooling systems and making them more appealing to eco-conscious consumers and industries. Circular design approaches further minimise environmental impact and promote a low-carbon footprint, a crucial selling point in markets valuing environmental sustainability. The project's competitive technology, measured by its COP, signifies its market potential by offering enhanced energy efficiency and lower operational costs.
